Signing Up with Payless Power: Q&A’s

  • How long does it take to get the power on after you prepay?

If your home has a standard smart meter, a new service will usually be connected within an hour. However, there may be delays if the meter cannot be activated remotely or if a permit is required by your city.

If your order is not submitted before 4:00 PM, your lights won’t be on until the next business day.

  • What kind of identification do I need to sign up with Payless?

You only need an email address and working phone number to sign up for prepaid electricity. Since Payless Power doesn’t require a credit check, a social security number or driver’s license is not necessary for the application process.

You may enroll as a first-time Payless Power customer here.

  • Can you get prepaid  electricity with a switch hold?

You cannot change to Payless Power if there is a switch hold on your Texas account.

A switch hold is a block placed on your meter by your current electric company due to either a deferred payment plan or tampering charges. All outstanding fees must be paid in full to remove a switch hold.

Payless Power will submit the request to remove the switch hold once all of the required documentation is received and approved.

  • What happens if my account balance drops below zero?

If your balance falls below one cent, Payless Power requires that the negative balance be paid in full before reinstating service. It is important to track usage on Payless Power’s online portal or via the phone to avoid default in payment and disconnection.

  • Is there a reconnection fee?

While Payless Power hopes you never experience a service interruption, we require you to pay the negative balance any past due. Once you establish a positive balance of up to $75.00, service will usually be restored within 2 hours the same business day. There is also a reconnection fee of $30.00

  • Do I have to sign a contract with Payless Power?

Payless Power requires no deposit, no credit check, and no long-term contract. If you live in Payless Power’s Texas electricity zip code areas, you’re automatically approved for prepaid electricity. Signing up is easy and straightforward!

  • How do I get a refund if I disconnect with money in my account?

If you plan to disconnect services with Payless Power, you will be granted a refund on any remaining balance on your account.

To cancel Payless Power please call the customer care department so our representatives can confirm your identity. Once your final invoice is generated, you will be eligible for a refund of any remaining balance. You can search for a new light company here at Quick Electricity.

  • What kind of payment options does Payless offer?

Payless Power provides three convenient payment options. You may pay online through the payment portal with your unique username and password. Payments may also be made by phone using the 24/7 automated system. Cash payment options are also available in person at any Moneygram location.

  • Who do I call if my power goes out?

To report outages, downed wires, or damage to your electric meter, you’ll need to contact your local Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU is the company that takes care of the poles and wires in your area). Be sure to program their number into your cell phone before severe weather strikes. Find your TDU here.
